Every month I write a newsletter and thousands of people don’t read it, share it, or forward it, and every month several people unsubscribe altogether. After posting a blog or commenting on a new development in Psychopharmacology, some people write me and say I could have stated my case better, or who am I to have made such statements. So it’s a certainty that I’m failing someone.
Alternatively, those who care, those who share my beliefs and points of view routinely offer their appreciation and how they benefited from my articles and posts. So it’s also a certainty that I’m succeeding with someone.
Failure and success operate on a continuum, and assuming that most of would rather succeed than fail, we best focus on exactly who we need to reach and what we need to accomplish in order to say to ourselves “this is a success about which I am proud.”
